The Albanian Ornithological Society organized on December 18-19, 2024, the Anti-Poaching Camp in Divjaka-Karavasta National Park. The topics of this camp included: poaching in Albania, common used methods in poaching and most affected areas by it as well as discussions on the new law on hunting, proposed by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.
Many different stakeholders were able to participate in this meeting, including Divjaka Municipality, the Regional Municipality of Protected Areas Fier, the National Territory Protection Inspectorate Fier, the local branch of the State Police, the local hunter community, the National Federation for Hunting and Conservation, local NGOs as well as the local community.
During the first day, discussions were focused mainly in transferring of jurisdiction in hunting management from central governance to local governance as well as other details related to the hunting area designation, game keepers and the unanimous stance to not include in the law the commercial trade of game and wild animals.
During the second day, the camp was focused on providing training to local hunters in identifying game and non-game species, in continuity with similar previous trainings. This meeting aimed at bringing together all the local hunting management stakeholders.
The purpose of the camp was to strengthen the collaboration between local institutions and community, offering space for discussions and potential solutions for the main challenges regarding the sustainable management of wild fauna and the enforcement of the hunting law.
