This weekend, October 24-25, 2020, AOS started the Bird Identification Course, BirdID 2020 Albania organized jointly with the Faculty of Natural Sciences (University of Tirana) and Nord University (Norway), as the only official BirdID course in Albania.
During the first two days of the course, the attendance was satisfactory and the students showed full interest. They calmly listened to the AOS teachersβ instructions, learned about the basic rules of bird observation and field practice, took the first lessons on images and sounds/songs of some ubiquitous species, were acquainted with the on-line program and auxiliary applications, and were able to observe different and impressive species.
The list of species encountered on the first day is comprised of over 20 different species observed in the Grand Park of Tirana. The species were equally represented by birds closely related to wetland environments and birds adapted to live in forests.
The three most well liked species of the first day were the colorful Kingfisher (πππ€π¦π₯π° π’π΅π΅π©πͺπ΄), the European Robin (ππ³πͺπ΅π©π’π€πΆπ΄ π³πΆπ£π¦π€πΆππ’), and the Common Moorhen (ππ’πππͺπ―πΆππ’ π€π©ππ°π³π°π±πΆπ΄). In the upcoming days, the participants of BirdID 2020 Albania will be familiarized with many other new species.
For the students of the course BirdID 2020 Albania, these may have been two days full of information. For AOS, this was indeed a good and promising start to capacity building in the field of bird identification and nature conservation.
After the extraordinary success of BirdID 2018, we remain full of hope that BirdID 2020 will also be a great success
