Conservation Milestones: Dalmatian Pelican Rehabilitation in Divjakë-Karavasta National Park

As we welcome the New Year 2025, we’re delighted to share an update on a significant conservation effort from December 2024, focused on Divjakë-Karavasta National Park, one of Albania’s most treasured ecosystems.

In collaboration with the Regional Administration for Protected Areas (RAPA) of Fier County, the National Agency of Protected Areas (NAPA), and the Ministry of Tourism and Environment (MTE), and with the invaluable support of the local community, the Albanian Ornithological Society (AOS) carried out the annual rehabilitation of nesting beds for the Dalmatian Pelican (Pelecanus crispus).

This initiative is a key component of our ongoing mission to protect and sustain the breeding colony of this iconic species. By improving nesting grounds, we aim to provide safer and more suitable habitats, contributing to the long-term preservation of the Dalmatian Pelican population within this breathtaking Protected Area.

The groundwork laid during 2024 forms a strong foundation, and we look ahead with optimism and determination for continued success in 2025.
