EUROBIRDWATCH 2017 IN ALBANIA

This important European event, coordinated by BirdLife International, closed yesterday on the 1st of October 2017 with the observation of more than 4 million of birds, the inclusion of more than 21,000 participants, 943 different events organized and managed by partners of BirdLife International. In Albania, in 3 events organized by AOS, more than 2500 individuals were observed, 70 different bird species were detected by more than 40 participants. Our main event was organized in cooperation with the regional Administration of Protected Areas of Fieri Region in Divjaka-Karavasta National Park, the most Important Bird Area of Albania and at the same time the most threatened by looming plans on massive urbanization. The activist of AOS and the staff of ADZM Fier informed the public about the importance of this natural wetland habitat for millions of migratory birds following the Adriatic flyway, stressed the negative impact of massive urbanization on the biological diversity and local economy and ask the public to react all together aginst the loss and degradation of our natural heritage. Special observation: A flock of 42 Stone Curlews (Burhinus oedicnemus) gathering from other areas/countries and ready for following their south migratory road towards Sub-Saharan Africa.
